Klubhaus Bulletin — July 2025

The Keystone Chapter exhibited our layout at the Great Scale Train Show in Timonium outside Baltimore this May 3 and 4. This was the first time we had the layout at the show since we rewired the modules with Anderson Powerpole connectors. The layout functioned flawlessly with no glitches or signal losses.

Our group of 8 needed about 6 hours to unload the box truck and connect and align the 18 modules comprising Sections 1 and 2 – Section 3 remained at our Klubhouse.

First day attendance was good with numerous visitors commenting on the layout details and scenery. Ours being a very organized club, we set up a schedule roster to keep at least 3 trains running at all times during the show. In true form, we of course quickly abandoned that and members spontaneously self-organized into keeping things interesting for the public with a mixture of steam, diesels, and electric engines running freight and passenger service.

Ours also being a group of mostly older men quickly tiring of being on our feet and paying close attention to multiple trains running at the same time, as well as simultaneously engaging the public, soon wished for automated train running. Some of us discussed future plans should include automatic PC control during shows!

That evening, we all enjoyed hearty brews and food at Au Pointin Still, the local Irish Pub across the street of the Maryland State Fairgrounds where the show was held.

Second day attendance was sparse and we had fewer visitors to the layout. We did gain a couple of new members, and recruiting is of course the major reason for attending the show.

A motivated crew of 9 completed tear down and loading of truck in 2 hours with subsequent transport to and unloading at the Klubhouse dispatched by 8PM Sunday evening.
